A case of smuggling and illicit turnover of drugs of particularly large amount by a group of persons with prior agreement was revealed
As a result of operational measures and other investigating activities conducted by the officials of the National Security Service of the Republic of Armenia, a case of smuggling and illicit turnover of drugs of particularly large amount by a group of persons with prior agreement was revealed.
In particular, it was identified that on June 2018 the IRI citizen A.K. entering Armenia from “Meghri” check-point, moved by taxi to the prior agreed part of the Armenian-Iranian border where the accomplice, who had crossed the border from the Iranian side, transferred him 5 batches with particularly large amount of drugs: about 4 kg of “opium” and about 6 kg of “heroine” drugs. Then, aiming to realize the drugs, illegally transferred to city Goris with an intention to hide them in the agreed place for their further delivery to the client. However, on his way, in city Kapan, was arrested by the NSS officials. Preceding the operational measures the NSS officials on the same day ambushed and arrested the RA citizen G.S. who had arrived to the said place to pick up the drug batches.
According to the operational sources the total price of revealed “opium” and “heroine” drugs in the “black market” may be about USD 920.000.
A criminal case is initiated at the Investigation Department of the National Security Service of Armenia pursuant to 1st clause of 4th part of Article 267.1 (“Trafficking of drugs of particularly large amount”) and 2nd clause of 3rd part of Article 266 (“Illegal turnover of drugs of particularly large amount: its illegal procurement, keeping and trafficking with the purpose of realization”) of the RA Criminal Code.
G.S. and A.K. were filed an indictment and detention was chosen as a restraint against them.
The preliminary investigation goes on. Measures are being taken to identify the other members of the criminal group.
Note. A person that is suspected or accused of an alleged crime is considered innocent unless his/her guilt is not proved by court judgment that has come into legal effect pursuant to the procedure determined by RA Criminal Procedure Code.
